History

State Museum and Cultural Center «Integratsia» is an institution run by the Department of Culture of Moscow.

In 1918 several rooms on the upper floors of the Eliseevsky store, which occupied the entire house on Tverskaya Street before the October Revolution, was transferred to living flats. Writer Nikolay Ostrovsky spent the last year of his life (1935−1936) in one of these flats. In 1940 a museum was created in his apartment. In 1992 the building was reconstructed and the museum was renamed «Nikolay Ostrovsky State Museum and Humanitarian Centre „Overcoming“».

On December 14, 2016 there was a merger between Nikolay Ostrovsky State Museum and Humanitarian Center «Overcoming» and Center of Sociocultural programmes «Integratsia».

State Museum and Cultural Center «Integratsia» is a unique platform of innovative solutions and cultural experiments such as educational project «People In», which trains skills of tolerant communication with disabled people, business trainings, concerts and performances in the Dark. On 14 Tverskaya Street there is a museum which provides permanent exhibition, temporary expositions and memorial apartment of the writer Nikolay Ostrovsky.

In 2016 collections of the Ivan Sytin Memorial Apartment, which is located next-door on 12/2 Tverskaya Street, were transferred to the collection of Nikolay Ostrovsky Museum. Ivan Sytin, famous book publisher, lived here with his family from 1928 to 1934. The Ivan Sytin Memorial Apartment was opened on September 19, 2019. It is at the same time an important memorial space dedicated to the famous Russian educator of the early 20th century and a unique museum of culture of the turn of the 19−20 centuries.

On 12 Lazo Street and on 6B Sayanskaya Street modern Cultural Centers are situated, where creative studios, sports clubs, exhibitions and concerts take place.

The Mission of the institution is to integrate people with disabilities into cultural life of the city. Our motto is «Culture is accessible to everyone!».

Major activities

State Museum and Cultural Center «Integratsia» includes two museums (Nikolay Ostrovsky Museum on 14 Tverskaya Street and Ivan Sytin Memorial Apartment on 12/2 Tverskaya Street) and two Cultural Centers (on 12 Lazo Street and on 6B Sayanskaya Street).

On 14 Tverskaya Street there is Nikolay Ostrovsky museum which provides permanent and temporary exhibition and memorial apartment of famous Soviet writer. In the building next-door on 12/2 Tverskaya Street there is a museum of the Russian book publisher Ivan Dmitrievich Sytin.

The Cultural Centers are modern culture and leisure institutions in the east of Moscow, where concerts, performances, various master classes and city events are being held. More than 50 different studios (sports, creativity, dancing, education, theatre, music) are available in every Center.

The Mission of «Integratsia» is not only integration of culture into daily lives of Moscow people, but also an inclusion of people with disabilities in society. The institution has become a unique platform of innovative solutions and cultural experiments such as educational project «People In», which trains skills of tolerant communication with disabled people, business trainings in the Dark and concerts and performances in the Dark.

Civic Methodological Center is a separate activity of the institution. It regularly holds seminars and trainings on tolerant skills communication with disabled people for cultural institutions staff.

In «Integratsia» we have created the best conditions for everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that culture is accessible to everyone!
